Most of the channels in the LawyerSmack Slack community are fairly self-explanatory.
- #bankruptcy is for discussing bankruptcy.
- #penn is for lawyers in Pennsylvania
- etc.
But some of the channels are a bit esoteric in name and purpose, so here is a brief guide to those channels.
- Afterdark – Lawyers Gone Wild. An explicitly NSFW channel. People talk Tinder dates, their intimate lives. Not to be opened during the day unless you have liberal work policies. Moderation rules are lax, and looser behavior standards are allowed.
- Ambulancechasers – For personal injury plaintiff attorneys.
- AssortedNerdery – Sci-fi, fantasy, comics, etc.
- BigLaw – you know who you are.
- Cats – Of course this exists.
- Cartalk – Don’t talk like my brother! For discussion of automobiles.
- Cryptocurrency – Yes, we’re talking about it too.
- Cyber – Discussion of law as related to hacking, data breaches, social media abuse, etc.
- Doyouevenlift – Do you bro? Fitness, diet, and weightlifting.
- Fed_r_c_p_nerds – The biggest of nerds.
- Film – Discuss the cinema.
- First_amendment – To discuss all things 1A. Given that this channel is about free speech, tread carefully. People will be talking law stuff, but it could easily be offensive to people. Moderation rules are lax, and looser behavior standards are allowed.
- Fountainpens – Of course this exists. Lawyers are such dorks. I didn’t even know this channel existed. I literally just discovered it while typing this up.
- Gaming – Join LawyerSmack. Kill other members (virtually).
- I_like_dags – Much better than cats.
- InternationalLaw – Total bullshit. Doesn’t actually exist, no one does it.
- Lawschooltryhards – Law students on Twitter using #lawschool or #lawstudent while try-harding.
- Lawyers4lawyers – This is a private, invite-only channel. Serious discussions of mental health and substance abuse.
- Newbie – For the fresh faced and rosy cheeked.
- PokeLaw – For people playing Pokeman as well as discussion of all the zany legal issues surrounding PokemonGo.
- Politics – If it might even be tangentially related to politics – it goes in here. Moderation rules are lax, and looser behavior standards are allowed. People are in here to argue politics, don’t expect rainbows and ponies.
- Rabbithole – For questions about people & events that the collective decides need further research. Often ethics related or lawyers behaving badly.
- Reasonablewoman – Female-centric channel for discussion of women’s issues in the law.
- Referrals – Get that money honey. Send work to other members.
- Saville_row – For sartorial concerns.
- Solo – For solo and small firm lawyers.
- Threesheets – It’s Miller Time. Discuss adult beverages.
- Wutangfinancial – Named in reference to a sketch, actually the finance/investing channel. Presided over by Biglawinvestor.
